Privacy policy, in plain language

We built Yalla Ni7ki Sawa to teach Palestinian Arabic, not to collect data. This page explains exactly what we store, where, and why — in normal sentences.

The short version

You can use most of this site without telling us anything. Your lesson progress lives in your own browser unless you create an account. We don’t run ads, we don’t sell data, and we don’t use third-party trackers. If you delete your account, your data goes with it.

Learning without an account

If you use the lessons, quiz, or alphabet trainer without signing up, your progress — completed lessons, streaks, quiz results — is stored in your browser’s localStorage, on your device. It never reaches our servers. We can’t see it, and clearing your browser data erases it. That’s the trade-off of anonymous use: full privacy, but no backup and no syncing across devices.

If you create an account

Accounts exist for one reason: syncing your progress across devices. When you sign up, we store your email address, a hashed password, and your learning progress using Supabase, our database and authentication provider. Supabase processes this data on our behalf; we don’t share it with anyone else. We may email you about your account — password resets, important changes to the service — but we won’t send marketing email you didn’t ask for.

The translator

When you type something into our English-to-Palestinian-Arabic translator, your query is sent to the Anthropic API (the company behind Claude) to generate the translation, then returned to you. We do not store your translator queries or the results. Anthropic processes the request under its own terms; we send only the text you typed — no account details, no identifiers. Still, please don’t paste sensitive personal information into the translator.

What we don’t do

  • No advertising, and no advertising networks.
  • No selling, renting, or sharing of your data with third parties.
  • No third-party analytics or tracking scripts in this version of the site.
  • No cookies beyond what’s strictly needed to keep you signed in.

If any of this changes in a future version — for example, if we add privacy-respecting analytics — we’ll update this page and change the date at the top before it happens.

Deleting your data

Deleting your account deletes your data: your email, your password hash, and your synced progress are removed from our systems. Anonymous progress in localStorage is yours to erase any time by clearing your browser storage. If you want confirmation that your account data is gone, email us and we’ll verify it.
